40 Bucks, A Whirlpool, A Rat and Three Black Widows

She's a beauty! Our new apartment in LA didn't come with a refrigerator. We found this one on Craig's List, advertised for 40 bucks. Apparently, it'd been resting in someone's back yard. Shawn and Chris retrieved it and carried it to the van. When they set it down to open the back door, I saw two little eyes peering out from the back casing of the fridge. You guessed it... Rat. Maybe it was pregnant, maybe it had cancer or rabies... but it was so lathargic, you could have easily picked it up with your hand and carried it off. We chose to sweep it out with a broom. It was like sweeping a boulder uphill. We were all laughing hysterically, by the time we rolled it ten feet from the car. Gisela was vocally disappointed that we didn't adopt the rat as a house pet. We hosed and scrubbed the dirt and leaves off our new Whirlpool at the car wash and took it home. The inside of the fridge was actually very clean, but I still thought I'd give it a good scrubbing... gratefully I was wearing rubber gloves when a beautiful, large black widow spun down from the bottom of the fridge. We killed another two in the next 30 minutes. Who knows what else could be lurking up there! We soaked it in bug spray, and haven't seen a thing since. Fridge and freezer work great! Once of the nicest fridges known to man... or beast.

I can't believe how you get the fridge even in the van! Way to persevere...That is pretty freaky! You are awesome, and now you have a fridge that works! Good luck on that bird!
